Dallas, TX – State Rep. Eric Johnson announced Monday that he has been endorsed by 16 former members of the Dallas City Council.
The breadth of support from these Dallas leaders again highlights the robust, diverse coalition that is backing Rep. Johnson to become the next Mayor of Dallas, as well as the historic nature of his candidacy.
“These are men and women who have served throughout this city,” Rep. Johnson said. “They understand that Dallas needs a leader who will think big, build consensus, bring diverse voices to the table, and focus on solving our most daunting challenges, such as hiring and retaining more police officers and firefighters. They know how important it is for a Mayor to be a unifying figure and not a divisive force. I am grateful for their support.”
The following former members of the Dallas City Council announced their support of Rep. Johnson on Monday: Hon. Jerry Allen, Hon. Monica Alonzo, Hon. Bill Blaydes, Hon. Lois Finkelman, Hon. Gary Griffith, Hon. Vonciel Jones Hill, Hon. Craig Holcomb, Hon. Sheffie Kadane, Hon. Linda Koop, Hon. Ann Margolin, Hon. Ron Natinsky, Hon. Dave Neumann, Hon. Mary Poss, Hon. Steve Salazar, Hon. Dr. Charles Tandy, and Hon. Erik Wilson.
“These are people who have been in the trenches of leading this city and know what it takes to be an effective Mayor of Dallas,” Rep. Johnson said. “I am honored that they believe I am the best person to lead Dallas, and the Dallas City Council, into the future.”
Dallas community leaders have rallied behind Rep. Johnson leading up to the June 8 runoff. He has also been endorsed by the Hon. Mike Rawlings and seven of his colleagues from the city’s current elected leadership, four former Dallas Mayors, U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, U.S. Rep. Lance Gooden, State Sen. Royce West, former State Sen. John Carona, Dallas Legislative Delegation Co-Chairs State Reps. Angie Chen Button and Victoria Neave, former Dallas Legislative Delegation Chair and Texas Legislative Black Caucus Chair Helen Giddings, five members of the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees, and several other current and former members of the Texas Legislature from both parties.
