Dear Friend,

Deciding whom to support for Dallas Mayor is a challenge this year. I have friendship, admiration and respect for many in the field. After weeks of reflection, I have decided to support Eric Johnson. Here is why.

I was introduced to Eric about 15 years ago after he graduated from law school and returned home to Dallas. In addition to his unbelievable academic credentials (Harvard undergraduate, Princeton MPA, Penn JD) Eric has expressed to me an interest in leadership and policy since the day we met. Public service is his chosen vocation and his life’s work.

Eric's law practice focuses on the intricacies of public finance. He ran an issues-oriented campaign to win election to the Texas House of Representatives, and his record in the legislature is one of constructive, bipartisan leadership ‑ especially on local/regional issues. Since he was elected to the Texas House, Eric has consistently reached out to me to brainstorm what he can do to improve transportation, infrastructure, mental health care, and especially education and workforce training.

Eric is a practical policy wonk, always looking for ways to implement data-driven programs that work. He brings creative thinking to these conversations, not grounded on one side of the political spectrum or another, but on what he believes will best advance the interests of Dallas. Eric is a patient listener, with the highest personal integrity, and he relates with empathy to persons from all walks of life.

What tipped me to Eric in this election is the diversity of his supporters, from all economic, social and geographic sectors in our community. Given his ability to build and sustain coalitions to address our greatest challenges, I have concluded that Eric Johnson will be a great Mayor.

Sincerely,

Philip Ritter
Trustee, Dallas County Community College District
