Addressing the public regarding the emergency regu Addressing the public regarding the emergency regulations I signed last night to help the City of Dallas in the fight against COVID-19. The regulations extend Dallas County’s latest orders to all of the City of Dallas and require hospitals to report bed and ventilator capacity.
This data will be made available to the public. As I said when we required COVID-19 testing data from all labs in the city, transparency and facts are key to slowing the spread of this virus.

Challenging days are ahead. The numbers of confirmed COVID-19 cases and the numbers of unemployed people are both rising quickly. This insidious virus will test us. But it will not break us. Dallas is strong and resilient. And we will bounce back from all of this.

Speaking to the media this morning about the procl Speaking to the media this morning about the proclamation I issued last night declaring a Local State of Disaster. This was a necessary step to respond to a rapidly evolving situation. Given evidence of community spread of #COVID19 in Dallas, we must act now to slow the spread.

We’ve seen how this pandemic has escalated in the rest of the world, and we know that taking precautions immediately will save lives. We considered how many government leaders elsewhere wish they had enacted measures such as this when their number of reported cases was lower.

We must take #COVID19 seriously. The numbers of cases will grow. And this virus is more lethal than the seasonal flu. Still, there is absolutely no reason to panic. We have a plan to minimize and slow down the spread of this disease.

Dallas is a strong and resilient city. We will get through this, but it will take all of us. I’m calling on our businesses, faith leaders, community leaders & all Dallasites to consider what you can do — even if it’s just practicing better hygiene to protect yourself and others.
